Joystiq have the scoop on the latest trailer for DC Universe Online, the forthcoming superhero MMORPG from Sony Online Entertainment. Unlike last month’s cinematic story trailer, this one is all gameplay, and it features heavy doses of action (yes, that guy did toss a helicopter on top of a skyscraper), as well as a voice-over narrative that hints at how player characters can co-exist with DC legends while carving out their own niche.

DCUO launches in November for both the PC and Playstation 3 platforms, and you can sign up for beta, as well as pre-order, at the game’s official website. Don’t forget to fly past the cut to view the trailer.

In SWTOR‘s Deceived trailer, there was an odd shot of the Jedi leader giving a signal to an astromech droid. Per usual, the writers at BioWare do not put anything into their trailers without a specific reason. This past Friday, that little droid was revealed to be a companion for the Jedi knight class, named T7-O1 (tee seven – oh one). This little bot calls back to both T3-M4 of Knights of the Old Republic and, of course, R2-D2 of the Star Wars movies. In fact, his attitude is very similar to R2-D2′s. According to the companion page on SWTOR‘s official site, he considers his owners to be more like partners and less like masters.

T7-O1 was activated over two centuries before the Treaty of Coruscant and has yet to be memory-wiped in that whole time. He remembers every organic he has ever worked with, from the petty smugglers, to Senator Oodora of Manaan, to Captain Nico Okarr, and to Jedi Master Ven Zallow, whom we witnessed being killed by Darth Malgus in the previously mentioned trailer. For your Jedi knight character, you can expect this droid to be an invaluable source of information. His surveillance, cartography, and data-slicing skills are unmatched.

BioWare has not revealed where your Jedi knight will meet T7-O1, just like every other companion mentioned for this game, but rest assured, he’s waiting for you somewhere in that galaxy far, far away.

To the elation of fans of Star Wars: The Old Republic, the developers at BioWare announced that the Sith “pure blood” and Miraluka will be playable species for the Sith warrior and Jedi knight classes, respectively. On top of that, the Mirialan species will be available to Force push as Jedi consulars, and the Sith inquisitor can slash his dual-bladed lightsaber as an acrobatic Zabrak.

In case these species names mean very little to you, here is a brief catch-up. The Sith species is a red-skinned race from the planet Korriban. They were made mention of in this Hyperspace Beacon a little while back. Miraluaka are blind humanoids who see via the Force. The KOTOR II character Visas Marr was Miraluka. Mirialan are a bit less familiar to the casual fan, but two of them are found in the Episodes II and III of the Star Wars movies, Luminara and Barriss. Finally, everyone should be familiar with the devilish face of Darth Maul, the Sith apprentice who killed Qui-Gon Jinn. He was the quintessential Zabrak.

Ventrilo is unearthed for smart phone hopefuls in the form of Mangle. After being a suggested app by motorla DROID users (or any android based smart phone and gamer enthusist), it seemed welcomed into realization even after a period were no news or future developement would seem to continue. Well it has, and it will allow users to connect to 3.xx ver ventrilo servers via a internet capable phone perfectly well in its open beta release which this auther is already using. I must say it was also very clear.

Taken from www.droidforums.net
“There is no official Ventrilo support for Android, or Linux for that matter, despite a project being “in the works” since 2005. But that hasn’t stopped the open-source community from developing its own Ventrilo client. And this is exactly what a team of devs have been working on since September, 2009. Dubbed Mangler, Linux’s first Ventrilo-capable client was born. Since then, Mangler has made great strides, eventually growing into a full-featured stable Ventrilo substitute for Linux. But, the question remained, would we ever see Mangler on Android? The same developers behind Mangler began to toying with an Android port of its open-source Ventrilo client in December, but after a few roadblocks, and the lack of a UI, the project was put on hold for awhile.

Mangler UI

However, the project picked up steam as interest for an Android port in the community grew. And finally, on June 12th, the first alpha for Mangler was released to the public. Truly a monumental occasion! Since June 12th, and tons of bug fixes and feature implementations later, Mangler Android 1.0 alpha 4 was released on July 7th. I have had a chance to play with Mangler Android 1.0alpha 4 for a few days, and let me tell you, for an early alpha, it is was a pleasure to use. The UI is somewhat clunky, which takes getting used to, and the audio quality is a bit tinny. That being said, the latest release is very stable, and once you get the feel of the application, it is easy to navigate. Basic functionality does exist, including opening/disconnecting chats, listing/joining channels, perusing user lists, and a simple "push-to-talk" button (screenshot above). You can't ask more from an open-source Ventrilo client, considering an official client will likely never be released. You will find a few screenshots at the end of the article.

Mangler is self-described by its developers as:

an open source VOIP client capable of connecting to Ventrilo 3.x servers. It is capable of performing almost all standard user functionality found in a Windows Ventrilo client. Mangler is maintained by Eric Kilfoil. Current contributers include:

Haxar (wishes to remain anonymous)
humbaba (wishes to remain anonymous)
Bob Shaffer II
